Hello, dear Peculiar Treasures!

Whenever I receive a letter from one of you saying how you wish you had friends like Christy, Katie and the gang, I think of what one of Jesus’ closest friends, John, said in his letter to some Believers: “My dear, dear friends, if God loved us like this, we certainly ought to love each other.” (I John 4:11)

I think this is the starting place for any deep and true friendship. When we chose to love others the way God loves us, He knits our hearts together. And how does God love us? He forgives us. He treasures us. He pursues us.

So, how do you start building close friendships like Christy and the gang? Pursue friendship. Treasure others. Give them lots of grace. Forgive. Don’t hold grudges or curl up into yourself and feel sorry for what you don’t have. Give generously what you do have. Love. Just love. Then watch how God knits your hearts together.

Oh, how I pray that our Lord will abundantly bless all of you with true friends! It only takes one true God-Lover to start loving others the way God loves us. I pray that one true God-Lover will be you!
